Imagine the space and money you'll save, needing less equipment. After saying that, KVM switches stop being exciting quickly, so let's look at things to shop for. Will it switch your speakers, too? How about your microphone? Is it USB only, or can it handle older connections? Hardware button, keyboard command control, or both?
Does it draw its power from the computer, or does it need a power adapter? How many computers do you need to switch? In my studio layout, I found that anything over x caused all sorts of distortions on all of my monitors from Apple through Samsung 4 tested. I am forced to run at much lower resolutions. Several keyboards also did not work with the unit. After the first 4 months, the unit began to lock up - lights on but no response - dead monitor.
This requires getting behind the unit or tracing the power and yanking the plug. In my rack this was a pain. After another 4 months, the lights went out altogether and only the first port worked.
This is my second unit, the first failed in the 1st week of operation. Pros: It's a decent switch. The daisy chaining is a great feature. I setup a server room with them -- pretty happy with it.
