My Aspire does not start up anymore. It has had a slow HDD, and often hang up, so i had to power it off, then I was able to reboot. At most, I could use it for about 5hrs before it started losing the AC adapter the orange light would be gone.
As days went by, the battery life lowered even when the AC adapter was plugged in. Even when I would try to re energize the battery, and it indicated that the battery life was FULL, the battery would only last 2 hrs.
It melted my first AC adapter. I bought another one and it burnt the inside of the adapter tip. In order for the laptop to find the plug, I would have to move the AC adapter tip around, but it would have to be still. Even then, the laptop overheats and then it starts to melt the AC adapter. The Booting is only until windows loading page, then it goes blank black screen. Apparently the modem driver is conflicting with something else. You can try this.
Before you install the modem driver, run Windows update. It was having problems with a very noisy fan was swithcing off randomly. After looking through your threads and other resources on the web I found tools to let me see the CPU temp and found it was operating at around 74c and the noise was the fan on high speed trying to cool it. Following advice from the likes of the threads here I opened it up to clean the fand and heatsink. What I found was that the fan cover part of the body shell you remove to access the fan had 2 sheets covering it.
One was a mesh gauze which I presume was to help prevent dust, but under that three quarters covering the vent was a plastic sheet. This effectively reduces the airflow and the CPU overheats. Its fantastci — no more fan noise and no more over heating. You should keep your laptop of a flat surface so there is some space under the laptop. Does your laptop have air intakes on the bottom? Maybe you are closing them with your lap? Also, take a look inside the heatsink.

Did you test the laptop with an external monitor? Can you get video on the external monitor? Try reconnecting memory modules. To disable NumLk press the Fn key and hold it down and at the same time press once on the NumLk key which could be found in the top row. Turn on the laptop and when Acer logo appears on the screen try pressing F1, F2, Esc keys. Can you enter the BIOS menu? Will the keyboard work in the BIOS? You have to install a new drive and then run the recovery disc.
The new drive will be partitioned and formatted automatically by the system recovery utility. Right click on the unused space and create a partition. Format it with NTFS. It says device not ready, or insert a disk, eventhough it has a disk in it and ejects the cd.

Eventually, it just stopped reading all CDs. I pushed that back and forth a few times with my finger, all the way to the outside and all the way to the middle.
Then I dropped in a disk and it worked! Removing the new RAM returned everything to normal. Where is the other RAM slot? Would this cause my problem? They might have shorted something inside the slot. Disassemble the laptop as much as you can. Leave only most important components: motherboard, CPU with the cooling module and memory. I assume the video card is integrated into the motherboard. When you have the bare bone system, you still should be able to start it with an external monitor and get at least the logo on the screen.
If still nothing and you are using a known good memory, there must be a problem with the motherboard or CPU. CPU failures are not common at all, so it must be a bad motherboard.

The driver may be corrupted or missing. How it flickers? Are you losing the backlight, image or both? I would try reconnecting the video cable on both ends.
